Fiasco of the Note 7: Samsung suffers largest drop in sales of … – Public.en

The Samsung lost nearly a fifth of its market share in the sale of smartphone, to suffer the largest drop in sales from its history, say data from the consultancy Gartner, cited by the Financial Times (FT).

In the third quarter of this year, the south Korean manufacturer saw its sales fall by 14.2%, the biggest break ever, and went on to have a market share of 19.2%, compared to 23.6% in the same time last year.

The decline is, of course, related to the "fiasco" of Note 7, which had to be withdrawn from the market, after some units have burned down, due to overheating of the batteries.

"The decision to withdraw the Galaxy Note 7 of the market was correct, but the damage to the image of the Samsung make it difficult for the company to increase their sales of smartphone in the short term," he told the FT Anshul Gupta, director of Gartner.

The loss of Samsung, however, have not been taken advantage of by rival Apple, which, according to data from Gartner, lost also market share and saw sales decline.

Who actually won with the descent of the Samsung were the chinese manufacturers Huawei, Oppo and BBK, that have gained market share.

Globally, the sale of smartphone rose by 5.4% over the same period, but is in frank deceleration compared to the 14% growth in 2015.
