The production of the american version of "Death Note", which adapts the famous manga and anime series for Netflix, had a name of its cast confirmed: Masi Oka. The actor, who became known for portraying the character Hiro in the series "Heroes", is one of the producers of the series. In an interview for the magazine Entertainment Weekly, he revealed that he also decided to move to the front of the camera.
"I’m very lucky to have the opportunity to work behind the scenes on the television. I recently finished the production of 'Death Note', and I’m going to act in the series also," said.
Until the moment, there are no information about who the Oka will interpret.
The film will be starring Nat Wolff ("The Fault Is of the Stars"), in the role of the protagonist Light Turner (the name has been westernized for the american public), Keith Stanfield ("Straight Outta Compton") as the mysterious L and Willem Dafoe ("Nymphomaniac") as the spirit Ryuk. The cast also includes Margaret Qualley ("Two Cool Guys"), Shea Whigham (series "Agent Carter") and Paul Nakauchi ("The Great Attack").
Interestingly enough, unlike what happened with the westernization of the characters of "Ghost in the Shell", so far no protest has emerged in the social networks against the roster of actors americans in the roles of the original japanese "Death Note".
The original manga was created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, and has already been adapted into two series (one anime and one with actors), in addition to the four films live action in Japan, the most recent was released in October.
Warner Bros. trying to develop the adaptation american for about six years, until he gave up, allowing Netflix to take over the production.
The roadmap is Jeremy Slater ("Fantastic four") and the director is Adam Wingard (the continuation of the "Blair Witch"). There is not yet a premiere date.
