Profit from Samsung goes up 50%, despite the fiasco of the Galaxy Note 7 – Mail Bahia

Samsung Electronics said on Thursday (5) that its profit in the last quarter of 2016 rose 50%, to the highest level in more than three years, in spite of the fiasco of the smartphone Galaxy Note 7. Analysts expected that the profit of Samsung saw big gains thanks to its business of semiconductors, but the result exceeded even the most optimistic estimates.

The division of the semiconductor benefited from strong demand and supply tight of microchips during the fourth quarter of last year, probably contributing to more than half of its gains in the period. In its forecast earnings, Samsung said that it recorded an operating profit of 9.2 trillion won ($ 7.8 trillion), compared to 6.1 trillion won in the same period of the previous year. This was the highest quarterly net income since the third quarter of 2013. Sales fell 1%, to 53 trillion won (US$ 44,9 billion).

The company has not provided information on your net profit. For the entire year of 2016, the tech giant’s south Korean saw a 10% increase in its annual profit, the best result in three years.
