The Samsung Galaxy Note 2, so beloved of users and developers alike, is about to get bumped up to 4.2 Jelly Bean, but there’s no schedule as yet. If you’ve got this phablet, you might want to take advantage of the unofficial custom ROM for the update.
Always be careful
When Installing custom ROMs and follow the instructions to the last letter. Flashing the ROM is always at your own risk.
Before you get going, make sure you have the Following:
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 from Verizon, AT & T or T-Mobile, and this Note 2 has to be rooted.
Make sure you have at least 70% battery, because if the battery Runs Out mid-flash, you might damage your device.
Back up your
Note 2 before you make any changes.
Turn any security apps you may have off, as well as security on your computer.
Go into Settings> Application Development, then make sure USB debugging is enabled que.
You also need to install ClockworkMod or similar onto your Note 2.
Download your favorite ROM and have a read through the instructions before doing anything.
Follow these instructions carefully and you really Should end up with Jelly Bean 4.2
Step One: Install Samsung USB drivers onto your PC.
Step Two: Connect your Note 2 to your PC then copy your new ROM and Google Apps onto your SD card’s Note 2.
Step Three: Turn off your Note 2 and reboot it into recovery mode by pressing and holding the volume up, volume down and power keys after it’s turned off.
Step Four: Make an Android back-up for your present ROM, just in case anything goes wrong. Select “backup and restore> backup.” You can then choose to restore it if you need to.
Step Five: In your main menu, choose “wipe data / factory reset” and “wipe cache partition”. Then, go back and choose “advanced> wipe Dalvik cache.”
Step Six: Return to the main menu and choose “install zip from SD card> choose zip from SD card”. Choose the custom ROM zip file you’ve already copied and confirm the installation. Repeat this with the Google Apps package.
Step Seven: Once installation is done, return to the main menu then choose “reboot system again.”
Step Eight: Your Note 2 will now reboot. This first run of the ROM might take five minutes or so, so do not worry.
Once it’s all done, you can start rocking Jelly Bean 4.2 and all its charms, including CyanogenMod and Paranoid Android.
