American manga adaptation Death Note will be for adults – Popcorn Modern

The box office success of “Deadpool” has inspired Hollywood producers to lose their fear of the rating “R” (for more than 17 years In the USA). And there is already another comic book adaptation considering following this path.

In an interview with Collider site, producer Roy Lee said the American adaptation of the manga “Death Note” is being planned for a high censure. “Definitely will be a film for adults, there is no way to do it without having the rank R. It will be one of the first realistic adaptations of manga, and we will bring all those fantastic elements,” he said.

“Death note “was created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata and tells the story of student Light Yagami, who finds a haunted notebook, capable of killing anyone who has your name written on it. Soon, the boy starts using the notebook to kill criminals, calling the attention of the police. The manga was released in 12 volumes and has been adapted into two series (an anime and another with actors), plus three live action films in Japan.

Warner Bros. trying to develop the American adaptation for about six years. The production has script written by Jeremy Slater (the controversial “Fantastic Four”), and will be directed by Adam Wingard ( “You Is Next”), bringing Nat Wolff ( “The Fault in Our Stars”) in the lead role.

there is still no release date scheduled for the western version, but according to Roy Lee, filming also begin in 2016.
