IFA 2014: Samsung Galaxy Note surprised with the Edge curved screen – iG Technology

While Apple regains lost time with the release of iPhone 6 Plus with 5.5 inch screen, the Samsung at IFA 2014 shows that at another time. The concept of the Galaxy Note Edge may sound strange, but just a few minutes on his hands to show that the idea is interesting.

The Edge is a slightly modified version of the Galaxy Note 4, also released in Europe Monday. Its screen is 5.6 inches while the original is 5.7 inches. It may seem little, but it is exactly this that makes the 0.1 inch Edge so promising, or at least the concept behind the appliance.

This is 0.1 inch less than the curve of the screen, on the right side of your smartphone and that, contrary to what may seem, not only corresponds to a design choice. This curved portion of the screen has Edge, briefly speaking, life itself.

this curvature the user finds a menu aside, that can be triggered with the thumb. Furthermore, this part of the screen operates independently of the rest. By this we mean that the Junior Member can access some functions only on the side of the smartphone, without having to unlock and turn the entire screen of Galaxy Note Edge.

It is almost as if the device had two screens, and one, the curved part gives access to only some shortcuts and notifications. As the initial screen of any device, the curved part also allows some customization, ie, the user can decide which applications shortcuts that will put there. To do so, just drag the icon to any smartphone that runs Android.

Galaxy Note Edge displays information from Twitter in an inclined screen

In addition to the application shortcuts, this curved screen on the right of the device functions as a notifications bar that can also be customized.

this 0.1 inch user may have access to trending topics on Twitter, the weather and even sports scores prediction. With the unit horizontally and open the camera application, the curved part becomes the buttons on the camera.

To access all such notifications, simply slide the thumb to the right and to the left. With this move, the user learns the latest news without having to turn it to the main screen. And when the whole screen is off, just slide your finger up and down on the curve to that part of the screen is unlocked.

The Edge layout works best for righties. For the left-handed way is to turn the unit upside down. The screen obviously spins together and works normally, but the physical button on the device ends up on top.

In terms of hardware, the Edge is little different from the original Note 4. The screen is a Quad HD Super AMOLED. Besides the stylus S Pen feature line already noted, the unit has, as well as Note 4, front camera of 3.7 megapixels and 16 megapixels rear. Inside, the Edge offers the same 2.7 GHz QuadCore processor, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. The battery is a little lower than that of Note 4 and has 3000 mAh. The device runs Android 4.4 and has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity.

According to the product manager at Samsung, Roberto Soboll, Edge has not yet forecast to reach in Brazil, since the company has not yet decided on which markets its receptivity will be tested. Still, Samsung has presented the Edge as an example of the next generation of displays.
