MARION – the Marion Centre Mall was Briefly closed Thursday afternoon after a note referencing the bombing was found by an Elder-Beerman employee
Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies found the sign. of actual explosives, and Lt. Jason Dutton said They do not have any leads at this time. Deputies Were Notified at around 3 p.m. after employees Began Their own search, and the store was cleared at 4:33 p.m.
As a precaution, the store and the mall Then Were Briefly closed. Dutton said employees assisted the “they know the area better than anybody.”
The note was written on a form the store started giving Out in the last week and contained the question “Let’s blow Elder Bearmen (sic) sky high? ” It was found by a store employee who unfolded it thinking it had Been dropped accidentally and Then alerted Their supervisor after reading it.
“It’s possible it’s been there a week and it’s possible it was put there yesterday,” Dutton said. “It’s not really a direct threat, just kind of a statement.”
