Comparison: Galaxy S7 Edge vs Galaxy Note 5 – canaltech (Blog)

Samsung has an extensive product line, which always confuses the head of almost everyone. One of Canaltech public recurring questions will more or less this way: what are the differences between the Edge and Note

If you also always had the curiosity to know where a big one is different from another, this comparison will help. The idea is to put face to face some details that stand out on both sides and create a score in which we opine what is best. Check!

Construction

In both gadgets Samsung identity is evident, with the Home button and capacitive buttons standing out on the front. Although both models come covered by a glass and metal suit, they keep a difference: Note 5 is rounded at the corners on the back, while S7 edge is rounded at the corners on the front. A look more inattentive is induced, including the reflective metallic colors, to believe that they both deal with the same device, but they bring inverted details

The S7 Edge is imperceptibly thicker:. Are 7.7 mm against 7.6 mm Note 5 – a technical tie between both the aesthetic issue. The balance begins to lean to one side when it comes to weight: the Note 5 weighs 171 grams compared to just 157 g S7 Edge then point to the Edge! Remember that the advantage in this regard is not only the lower weight but also to present resistance to water, something valuable in times in which it became common to leave the phone in the bathroom while you shower.

Usability and performance

The Galaxy S7 Edge tested here in the newsroom is equipped with a chipset Exynos 8890 Octa, CPU quad-core 2.3 GHz Cortex-A53 plus 1.6 GHz quad-core Cortex A-53, GPU Mali-T880MP12 and 4 GB memory RAM . In the other corner of the ring is the Note 5, with chipset Exynos 7420 Octa, 1.5GHz quad-core CPU Cortex-A53 and quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex a-57, GPU Mali-T760MP8 and the same 4 GB of memory RAM .

Here, there is a natural evolution between the two devices. As the S7 Edge was released after the Note 5, it brings hardware more powerful. Thus, although both machines are powerful, the S7 Edge gets the point again.

Display

The S7 Edge has Super AMOLED screen of 5.5 inches with a resolution 1,440 x 2,560 pixels (~ 534 ppi). Already Note 5 comes with a display Super AMOLED larger, 5.7-inch, but has the same resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels (~ 518 ppi). Speaking clearly, no screen is superior to the other, because both use the same technology and have the same resolution. The pixel density difference exists due to the size difference between the two, keeping everything within an equivalence already expected.

But someone has to win, so we use as tie-factor the Always screen feature -on, S7 Edge, which saves battery by lighting only the pixels needed to display the time on the display. Then, point to it. Remember that Samsung can implement the feature in other devices with Super AMOLED screen, but until the closing of this matter, it was exclusive S line.

Cameras

The S7 Edge has 12-megapixel rear camera, 26mm, f / 1.7, makes videos in 4K and has stabilization optical image. Note 5 already has 16-megapixel rear camera, f / 1.9, also makes videos in 4K and has the same optical stabilization. At the front, the two gadgets have 5 megapixel cameras and produce very close results.

With all this, the S7 Edge has wider field of view and seen best in night shots or environments low light. The Note 5 produces more saturated pictures with bright colors. Although both gadgets count with good cameras once again the natural evolution of a latest handset tilts the balance for the S7 Edge, which is to the point.

Battery

the Note 5 has a battery of 3000 mAh, a clear reflection of Samsung’s past, trying unnecessarily tune their devices. The proof is that the Note 5, which has 5.7 inches, has the same 3,600 mAh S7 Edge, which is smaller, with 5, 5 inches. This measure makes it clear that would fit more battery in the devices of the past generation, it was only the South Korean manufacturer put aside this obsession with fine gadgets.

Although both smartphones perfectly withstand a full day of use, once again leading edge point S7. Now, the reason is clear:. Your battery is higher

Price

No doubt this is the worst part of the comparison. At the official store of Samsung, the Galaxy S7 Edge can be purchased for R $ 4,299, while the Note 5 costs US $ 3,799. Looking at it, it’s easy to this point to Note 5, after all it is possible to take into account that a good search on the Internet can make the difference in price even more significant in favor of the gadget cheaper.

Who wins?

at the end of the struggle, we have the following score:

  • Galaxy S7 Edge: 5 points (construction, usability and performance, screen, camera and battery);
  • Galaxy Note 5: 1 point (price) <. / li>

As expected, it was pointed out here the evolution of the components and technologies from a current generation and another last year. The meaning is the same as ever: the new line of tops tend to win. But we must make a point even with the S7 Edge out winner: the Note 5 figured for a long time between the first places of benchmarks and comparisons, and the picture remains the same with the release of S7 Edge. In short, it combines excellent firepower and a much more friendly price than the most powerful rival.
