The line Galaxy Note is practically synonymous with its own product category, being the most representative and the most sophisticated option of smartphones with digital pens. We are two months of the official launch of its new version at IFA 2016 event which takes place on 4-9 September, with details already more or less certain about it, and separate the features almost certain about it.
Note .: some rumors indicate that the official name is Galaxy Note 6 (following the numerical order), while others show that the Samsung will use the name Galaxy Note 7 to indicate the same generation in relation to the line Galaxy S. the second version seems more likely, then we will use the name Galaxy Note 7 in this article.
Again, two chips
With the exception of 2015, marked by models “below expectations” (being polite) chips Qualcomm , Samsung often works always with two versions of chips in their line of tops. The official reason for this, in view of Samsung, is that it is a strategy to be able to meet the high demand for equipment, and the Galaxy Note 7 will be no different, with half of the devices bringing the Snapdragon 821 (which probably also equip the Nexus “Sailfish” and “Marlin”) and the other with the Exynos 8893.
Although neither has been officially announced, it is not hard to believe that these are just two, both the term still wide enough for it to be announced as the characteristics of the chips. Basically, there are versions with higher clock of the Snapdragon 820 and Exynos 8890 chips, with the maximum of the first clock reaching 2.3 GHz (against 2.15 GHz) and the second at 2.6 GHz (2.3 GHz against ), while both energy saving colors remain the same (1.6 GHz in both cases)
earlier rumors indicated that the Note 7 would come with 6 GB of RAM , but more recent reports indicate that it will “only” 4 GB as well as Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. 4 GB really seems more likely, not a technical issue or production costs, but because it is more consistent to wait until 2017 to announce the Galaxy S8 with 6 GB, which would cause more marketing impact. There is only one scenario, although unlikely, that 6GB would make sense. We go to the next item.
4K screen?
Apparently, the Note 7 will keep the size of 5.7 inches, but some sources suggest that the resolution of Quad-increase HD (2560×1440) to Ultra HD (4K: 3840×2016), which really require 6GB to keep the user experience similar to the Galaxy S7. Reasons for not using 4K are numerous, which increases the chances that it is something unlikely.
Firstly, there is not the slightest technical necessity. The difference would be imperceptible to the user, and “maybe” detected only by highly specialized laboratory tools. A gain practically zero for a considerable cost increase. The Super AMOLED screens are among the most expensive to be produced, which would increase too much the final price of the device, which may discourage the end-user. A higher value for a gain that Samsung says it has, but you do not observe.
performance It would also be compromised. This is 125% more pixels (4,608,000, to be precise) for movements – which would penalize both the GPU , it seems to be same in the two chips, as the processor. The small gain of the new chips would be (very) far to compensate for this extra demand. The failure to attract success Z5 Premium Sony embodies exactly these two problems, even rendering the screen in 1080p most of the time.
even if the two above problems are “solved”, a screen with such resolution would transform the battery in a countdown timer, even if most of the rumors indicate that it would have 4,000 mAh skills. Not to mention the extra heating, as even powerful chips as the Exynos 8893 and the Snapdragon 821 could hardly keep their lower states of energy consumption.
We do not rule that Samsung will eventually make the move to 4K, after solve these problems (the specs war continues!), but the line Note does not seem the right place to start (but the line Galaxy S).
Storage + microSD card
While Apple insists on selling models with only 16 GB, which is ridiculous for a top line, Samsung probably announce Note 7 with a minimum 64 storage GB. Incidentally, it was time for manufacturers to start with 64 GB, 32 GB as it has become common even in the intermediate segment … but this is not the only interesting thing about the storage.
internationally, it will also be offered in versions of 128 GB and 256 GB, almost a SSD PC in a smartphone. Hardly versions with more space will come to Brazil, since the cost would actually be inaccessible, but you can increase the storage further. Recently, Samsung itself has developed its new models microSD cards with UFS, speeds up to 530 MB / s and capacities of 32, 54, 128 and 256 GB.
So, yes, it will be possible to have a smartphone with 512 GB of storage (256 GB internal memory + 256 GB microSD card). Required? No. Impressive? Yes, really impressive.
Extras
Continuing the rumors, it seems that the Note 7 will come with USB Type-C connector, even though the Galaxy S7 has retained the micro USB. This is actually likely, since Samsung has no standard behavior at this point (remember the micro USB connector 3.0 Galaxy S5?), And the USB Type C really will become the new standard connection in the coming years with several Asian models already bringing this kind of connection .
with regard to the S-Pen, although it does not expect large changes in technology itself, many awaiting a solution by Samsung relative to the socket. The Note 5 announced that if the pen is placed 180th turn, could break the device, a defect beyond dangerous and a striking design flaw for a model that hit the market with such a high price.
Conclusion
There are so many new features for the Note 7, which seems to follow the same recipe that Samsung used in 2015: same design, camera configuration (maybe 13 megapixels instead of 12) and similar specifications in relation to the line Galaxy S. If we kick, we believe that he will do well more successful than the Note 5 not by its characteristics, but by solving two problems of the previous model, which ended up discouraging those who thought about doing the upgrade.
the first is the already mentioned fragility S-Pen of the socket, and a risk both for those who are used to paying so dearly for the line models. The second was a stupid decision (for lack of a better word) to remove support for micro SD cards in their 4 2015 line of tops (S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus and Note 5), in particular in Brazil, where they were sold with only 32 GB of internal memory. It became clear that it was an excuse to sell models with more internal memory from the first day, and were happy to see that Samsung took into account the user’s rejection at this point.
Anyway, we will have to wait the official release to have all the details, which will not take long, since the IFA last major show of the year technology is almost there.
